Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 5, 2026
Strangey Dangey is a service operated by Hilltop Unlimited LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We try to keep this short and free of jargon. If anything is unclear, email us at privacy@strangeydangey.com.
The short version
- We collect the minimum needed to run the service: an account identifier when you use the app, the kid profiles you create, the YouTube links or video titles you ask us to evaluate, and the library you build from them.
- We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers.
- We use Google Firebase, Google Cloud, Google's Gemini AI, and RevenueCat (for subscriptions) as service providers. Their privacy practices apply to data we route through them.
- You can delete your data at any time. Email privacy@strangeydangey.com or use in-app account deletion.
Information we collect
From the marketing site (strangeydangey.com). Nothing. The site has no signup forms, no third-party trackers, and no advertising cookies.
From the Strangey Dangey app. When you use the app, we collect:
- Account identifier. An anonymous or Apple account ID issued by Firebase Authentication. We never receive your Apple password.
- Email address (only if you sign in with a method that provides one). Used for support and account-related communication.
- Kid profiles you create. The name or nickname, age, and filter sensitivities you set for each kid, stored with your account so verdicts stay personalized. A nickname or initials works fine; you never need to enter a real name.
- Content you ask us to evaluate. The YouTube URLs, channel names, or show and movie titles you submit for a verdict. We send the relevant text and metadata to our verdict service to generate a result.
- Verdict history, rotations, and per-kid approved and blocked lists. If you are signed in, these are stored with your account so you can review past scans, sync across your devices, and share a household with a co-parent or caregiver. If you use the app without signing in, they stay on your device and are never uploaded.
- Subscription status. If you subscribe to Pro, we receive purchase and entitlement information (product, renewal state, and an app account identifier) from Apple via RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.
- Device and diagnostic information. Device model, OS version, app version, and crash logs. Used to fix bugs and improve performance.
- IP address. Used to count screenings against the daily limit when you aren't signed in, to apply rate limits, and to detect and block abuse. We don't use it to build an advertising profile, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Strangey Dangey is intended for parents and caregivers. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
How we use information
- To operate the service: generate verdicts on the content you submit, sync your library across devices, sign you in.
- To communicate with you: respond to support requests, notify you of significant changes to the service.
- To improve the service: understand which features are used, fix bugs, refine the verdict model.
- To enforce usage limits and protect against fraud, scripted traffic, and abuse of the service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
How we share information
We share information only with service providers that help us run Strangey Dangey, and only to the extent needed:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Hosting): account identifiers, app data, and the static site you're reading.
- Google Cloud Run: hosts our backend service that processes scan requests.
- Google Gemini API: generates the verdict text and category scores from the content you submit. The content you ask us to evaluate is sent to Gemini for analysis. Per Google's terms for the paid Gemini API, your inputs are not used to train Google's models.
- RevenueCat: manages Pro subscription entitlements. Receives an app account identifier and purchase metadata from Apple, never your payment card or billing details.
- Apple: when you use Sign in with Apple, Apple receives only the information necessary to issue you a sign-in token. When you subscribe through the App Store, Apple processes the payment; we never receive your payment details.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information when required by law, when necessary to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a corporate transaction (and only with appropriate confidentiality protections).
Data retention
- App account data: retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account in the app, we delete your verdict history, kid profiles, rotations, approved and blocked lists, watch history, and account record from our systems within 30 days. Backups are purged on a rolling 90-day schedule. Anything you created without signing in never left your device and goes away when you remove the app.
- Diagnostic logs: retained for up to 90 days, then deleted or anonymized.
Your rights and choices
- Access and correction. Email privacy@strangeydangey.com to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or to correct it.
- Deletion. Delete your account inside the app, or email us. We honor deletion requests within 30 days.
- Unsubscribe from emails. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Account-related emails (security alerts, account deletion confirmations) cannot be unsubscribed from while your account is active.
- California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
- EU/UK residents (GDPR/UK GDPR). Our lawful basis for processing is performance of a contract (running the app you signed up for) and legitimate interest (improving the service, preventing abuse). You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
Security
We use TLS for all data in transit and rely on Google Cloud's encryption-at-rest for stored data. Access to production systems is restricted to a small set of authorized personnel and protected with multi-factor authentication. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions and respond promptly to incidents.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and our service providers process data primarily in the United States. If you use Strangey Dangey from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S. By using the service, you consent to that transfer.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
Strangey Dangey is designed for parents and caregivers of children, not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@strangeydangey.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. For material changes, we'll provide additional notice (such as an email or in-app notice) before the changes take effect.
